St. Joseph the Worker

In the Late 50s construction began on the Mammoth Pool Dam near North Fork. This brought many new families to the mountain area and prompted them to solicit St. Joachim’s Church in Madera to hold weekly services in the mountains of Eastern Madera County.

The movie theater in Bass Lake became the location for Sunday Mass. A priest from Madera came up to serve these parishioners. The success of these services persuaded the local Catholics to request a mission church be built in North Fork.

The local population helped with volunteers to complete the church in the mid-1960s.

This mission church is a part of the parish outreach of Our Lady of the Sierra Parish of Oakhurst.
