Music Ministry

All are welcome!

If you can talk, you can SING!”

Music is an integral part of every liturgical celebration at Our Lady of the Sierra parish in Oakhurst. Our liturgical music speaks to people with varying tastes in music, from very traditional to more contemporary. Our music ministry is about engaging the faithful in full and active participation. Those who wish to be part of this ministry should also possess the desire to minister to God’s people, and be willing to share music as prayer with the community.

Our Lady of the Sierra Music Ministry has many opportunities with which to share your faith and your gift:

This choir is comprised of many of those involved in liturgical music at a regular Liturgy each Sunday and comes together to sing at major liturgical celebrations of the Church year:  Christmas and Easter, Parish Reconciliation Services;  Sacrament Liturgies, and many others.

Rehearsals are scheduled based on the liturgical celebration being prepared.

Those who wish to be part of this ministry should possess an ability to sing on pitch.  If you read music, that is a definite gift to this ministry!

Cantors and Liturgical Music Ministry Groups

As each of our Liturgies have their own special character and “personality,” music ministry groups are formed
to accommodate these needs. We provide music ministry at every Liturgy on the weekends.

Presently they are as follows:

Saturday Vigil Liturgy:
Kevin Jonas, Organist and Cantor

Sunday Morning 8:00 a.m. Liturgy
at St. Joseph’s,  North Fork:

Kevin Jonas, Organist and Cantor;
Lynn Mackey and Laura Holguin, Cantors.

Sunday Morning 9:30 a.m. Liturgy
at St. Dominic’s, Bass Lake:
Guitar Liturgy with Roman Zabicki and group.

Sunday Morning 11:30 a.m. Liturgy
at Our Lady of the Sierra, Oakhurst:
Guitar and Piano Liturgy with Karen Hutchison,
Midge Stallings and Verni Jones.

Those who wish to be part of this ministry should possess an ability to sing on pitch.  If you read music, that is a definite gift to this ministry!

Instrumentalists:
Our Lady of the Sierra welcomes all persons of musical ability to participate by playing their instrument for our parish liturgies. Those who wish to do so need not play every week, but may work out a comfortable schedule throughout the year. Our parish instrumentalists offer their gifts in service to God, and offer them so that the faith of the community may be nourished through sung prayer.
